The right floor for renovations and refurbishments
The development of real estate in recent years speaks a very clear language. Renovation and refurbishment is in vogue. New buildings slip back into the periphery of urban areas. Quite simply, the space is lacking. In addition, the land purchase tax combined with a new building is financially not always easy to manage.
That's why development, expansion and re-building are at the centre of consideration - especially in the urban environment. We see that as not necessarily a negative development, because connecting new with old extends the life cycle of buildings and use resources more optimally. These are topics which we at mafi natural wood floors have been committed to for decades.
The installation height as a critical factor - 10mm is ideal
In existing building structures, we often find stock floors. Sometimes, these can only be either removed partly or at very great expense. That is why many people choose to simply install a new floor on the existing surface. The difficulty, however, is the height of the new floor as there is often a lack of space. Our research has shown that the ideal thickness is approx. 10mm.
Reduced thickness no longer means reduced quality
Until now, a reduced thickness has automatically meant a loss of quality. Whether it was in the top layer or in the entire structure of the plank. Distortions, dents and loose areas were the result. The new mafi plank for renovation purposes offers a construction height of 10mm with a top layer thickness of 3mm. The middle layer consists of Austrian Spruce and provides the required flexibility in the plank. Thus, distortions and dents are already significantly less likely. The back layer provides the necessary counter move which keeps the plank in shape.
Veritable dimensions even with a 10mm construction
Short and narrow dimensions were previously used every day in renovation floors. Thanks to the stable mafi construction, lengths can be achieved up to 2400mm and widths up to 185mm. As a result, also prestigious premises, for example in old buildings, can be fitted with spacious country house planks without having any problems with the construction height. At product launch, we offer this renovation plank within the normal, non-thermo treated Oak collections.
Tips for correct installation
Without exception, we recommend to glue completely on a standard flat underfloor. The renovation planks are extremely dimensionally stable and thus a floating installation, such as is possible with other mafi planks, is not recommended here. A permanently elastic adhesive should be used for gluing, in order to take pressure off of the floor.
