Japandi
Japandi refers to an interior design style that combines the simple interior concepts of Japan with equally understated Scandinavian elements. The term is derived from “Japan” and “Scandi.” The result is a natural, cozy interior.
Typical of the Japandi Style
- Reduced aesthetics
- Simply furnished, often with simple and low furniture
- Neutral color palettes
- Contrasts between light and dark
- Very deliberate decoration and courage to leave space empty
- Natural materials such as rattan, fabric, stone, or wood
Basic Guidelines
As the name suggests, the concepts of both styles are blended in the implementation. While Scandinavian design focuses primarily on simple functionality, Japanese design brings a desire for harmony and tranquility.
The result is a simple, functional style that leaves plenty of space to breathe. The feel-good factor is created by the color palette and materials used.
Materials
The naturalness of the materials used is of great importance in the Japandi style. Wood is used particularly frequently, together with fabric, stone, and rattan.
Wooden flooring significantly supports the vision of the Japandi style: its scent and the incomparable feeling of walking barefoot create a feel-good atmosphere. From white oiled oak, ash, or larch to very dark Nero oak, our floors can form the basis for Japandi concepts.

Typical Color Scheme
While Scandinavian design tends to use light woods, the Japanese influences of Japandi also allow for darker woods. The resulting contrasts are softened by the clear simplicity.
Paired with selected decorations and plants, the result is a deliberately understated design with a lot of warmth.
Furniture & Furnishings
Furniture that is typically Japanese in design, low and simple, is particularly popular. Great importance is attached to clear functionality here.
This is complemented by organic shapes, such as rounded sofas, reading chairs, dining chairs, and lampshades.
