minimalism
“The art of omission” describes the minimalist interior design style very well. It is not about sacrifice, but about leaving space for emptiness. Coziness is by no means neglected, especially through the use of warm woods.
Typical of the minimalist style
- Minimalist aesthetics, little decoration
- Select pieces of furniture
- Open spaces
- Clear structure and shapes
- Cleanliness
- Subdued colors, often monochrome
Basic Guidelines
The concept of minimalism can be directly applied to interior design. Choices are made consciously, and individual elements are often high-quality and timeless. Care is taken to ensure that rooms are not overloaded—this is also achieved through the use of functional furniture with plenty of storage space.
Materials
When it comes to materials, there are no limits in minimalism. Rather, it is about conscious reduction. For example, a reduced mix of materials is particularly desirable. This allows the living concept to radiate calm, and individual pieces of furniture or decorative items are given the space they need to make an impact. The clean design is preserved.

Typical Color Scheme
To radiate calm and clarity, minimalist interior design often relies on light, understated colors. Muted, earthy tones are very popular, together with classic white doors and ceilings.
These are often combined with isolated black furniture pieces as contrasting eye-catchers. Nevertheless, the motto of minimalism remains at the forefront here too: the colors used should belong to the same color family and not push themselves into the foreground. For this reason, gray tones are also frequently seen in minimalist approaches.

Furniture & furnishings
The furniture used should have clean lines. Simplicity is key here. Care should be taken to ensure that the room is not overcrowded with furniture and that each piece has enough space around it.
Textures, on the other hand, are a popular way to add a playful touch to minimalism. Cushions, rugs, or curtains can subtly add interest with special textures that match the rest of the color scheme.
