We managed to get Markus Pichler from bulthaup in the Ninth Quartier for a quick impulse interview.
mafi: Your showroom has just been refurbished – how satisfied are you with the result?
Pichler: The shop is located in a classic 1900s house. The exterior was opened to the street and the basement was completely restored. In the course of the extensive remodelling, additional installations from through the year were removed so that both the rooms and the facade can now be seen in their restored original condition. What was previously closed is now open. The new bulthaup site was designed as a platform for architecture and living spaces. It gives us a glimpse of what diversity in the kitchen can be. We look forward to interesting discussions with interested parties.
mafi: What aspects of your concept played a central role - even the floor?
Pichler: A special feature is the historic cellar that has been exposed and is now a part of the design. Overall, the exhibition area is 220 m² - spread over two floors. These are connected to an open air space. Due to the condition of the basement cellar, the decision for the floor was of the utmost importance. In order to create a pleasant atmosphere, we decided on knotty oak planks of 5m length. The white pigments in the surface blend perfectly with contemporary kitchens.
mafi: Please describe the key characteristics of your products.
Pichler: Unlimited creative freedom is drawn into the living space along with bulthaup. Our products are always contemporary but timeless. Architecture, innovation and quality are the values at bulthaup. Our culture is characterized by integrity, loyalty, honesty and decency, tolerance and respect for everyone. We offer flexible, sustainable solutions for every room and every day, worldwide.
mafi: bulthaup and mafi - two strong, international brands - where do you see parallels?
Pichler: bulthaup is known worldwide for its interior architecture. Architecture, innovation and precision are decisive for the brand. The design of living spaces are holistically planned within the architecture of the room and tailored to the individual needs of customers. Precision of the highest competence, quality and technical perfection is paramount for us. This passion combines both companies.
mafi: A wood floor in the kitchen - a benefit or a risk?
Pichler: An ensemble of materials, surfaces, colours and shapes clearly defines how the aura of a kitchen develops: with the interplay of pre-defined elements and the individual traces of our lives. This creates an exciting contrast, as seen in the classical Japanese aesthetics of Wabi-Sabi, that celebrates the beauty of imperfection. This authentic context is created in the moment when the individual person comes into play. A good wooden floor convinces by its honesty.
