Naturally colorful: the great variety of colors of mafi natural wood floors

Natural wood floors from mafi not only impress with their tremendous stability and properties that make for a healthy home, but also with an impressive spectrum of colors from light to dark.

The natural play of colors found in mafi floors gives every ambience expression and personality. What distinguishes mafi from other wooden floors in this regard is the natural, semi-gloss surface, which only reflects the unique character of the wood and does not artificially change it.

The portfolio therefore only contains color nuances and characteristics that are closely based on the original appearance of wood. In addition, we do not use any artificial chemical additives at all.

With the help of different surface finishes, mafi is able to bring even more variety of colors to its range. The natural oil-based surfaces "white oiled," "extreme white oiled" and "deep white natured" definitely lighten the natural tone of the mafi real wood planks. They can take what is normally a light brown oak or ash plank into a sand-colored to creamy-white color.

They also turn already light species such as spruce, fir, Douglas fir, and some larch into true miracles of light for an unmistakable atmosphere.

Thermally treated local woods are an ecological and climate-friendly alternative to tropical woods. Depending on the intensity of the process, the resulting floors can be a shimmering light brown, strong chocolate brown, or almost black. With their warm, lively character, the thermally treated planks lend any interior a noble and exclusive flair.

Even naturally darker types of wood such as WALNUT USA ensure a timeless interior design with a clear emphasis on the natural look of the wood.

Our TIGER and CORAL collections, where natural cracks are filled with colored wood putty, are particularly eye-catching. This emphasizes the original properties of the wood are treated instead of discarding those pieces as off-cuts, as so often happens.

Want even more color? Then go for it: any RAL color is possible. Go fuchsia, purple, or radiant blue for an individually selected putty color that underscores the authenticity of the wood while making a colorful design statement. Especially for companies and brands, you can use this to expand your CI to your flooring.

Wood + thermal process + oil = natural coloring

In order to create unique color shades, in addition to the choice of wood, two decisive factors influence the color of the plank: namely the oil finish and the thermal treatment of the wood.

1. WOOD

The mafi range consists of nine different species of wood: from light fir to oak, from ash to dark walnut. That alone promises a large selection of different colors. Within a single species, of course, the color nuances vary minimally from tree to tree. In addition, there is the natural texture of the wood: just like the human fingerprint, the grain of each tree is unique. Characteristics such as cracks or knotholes as well as the growth rings itself make every tree unique and can form the basis for any design.

2. VULCANO THERMAL PROCESS

mafi obtains the wood for its natural wood floors exclusively from sustainable forestry in Europe. Thanks to an innovative thermal process, the mostly lighter woods can literally be baked and thus made darker.

The process works entirely without chemical additives, using just heat, wind, and water. In addition, the swelling and shrinking behavior of wood, what we call its movement, is greatly reduced and thus ensures greater dimensional stability.

Above all, the mafi thermal process offers a sustainable and future-proof alternative to tropical woods, which are often used only because of their dark coloring.

The thermal process is an optional work step and can also be offered in different degrees of intensity.

3. NATURAL OILING

As the final step in production, mafi planks are refined with linseed-based oils and carefully air-dried. The oils serve to improve the resistance of the wood to external influences. Depending on the desired color, oils with pigments are used, all of which have been tested and are not harmful to health. The spectrum ranges from very light tones to gray oiled floors.
