Remove fat stains from wood floors with baking soda

Apply water and then baking soda to the affected area and allow to soak in for max. one minute. Then, harmonise the area with warm water and mafi wood floor soap. Optionally, treat with mafi care oil balsam at the end.

If there is still oil/fat on the surface, this should be removed with a cotton cloth. Then, apply hot water to the affected area and allow to soak in. Thereafter, mix commercial baking soda with the water. The reactions starts with foaming or bubbling and the fat is released from the wood and bound into the baking soda-water mixture. The soaking time should be a maximum of one minute; otherwise the baking soda will discolour the spot.

After the soaking time, the liquid is wiped off with hot water and the suitable mafi wood floor soap. This interrupts the reaction with the baking soda and prevents bleaching of the wood. The spot can be dried for final review with a hair dryer. The practical side-effect of this is that any fat residues are liquefied and are thus easier to remove. Thereafter, simply re-treat with mafi wood floor soap and hot water.

Once fully satisfied, the floor can be optionally re-treated using the matching mafi care oil balsam. Simply apply the balsam directly onto the wood and work in with a cotton cloth. Finally, the surface can be polished with a white hand pad.
